About the Tekton

Tekton is a scholarly, refereed journal brought out under the aegis of the Mahatma Education Society, Mumbai and its Pillai College of Architecture, New Panvel, Navi Mumbai. It will be published bi-annually (September and March) in both print and digital media.

Tekton envisages to become a site of sustained critical engagement with diverse issues in architecture and built environment while framing debates within and across the disciplines. It is intended to become a forum for critical writings for young as well as established academics, scholars and practitioners in the fields of architecture, urban design and planning. The journal also seeks viewpoints from scholars in other fields of humanities as valuable pointers towards its contextual understandings.

The journal has a distinguished panel on its editorial board comprising of eminent academics and practitioners who will guide the peer review process to maintain a high academic standard.

About MES

Mahatma Education Society was established in the year 1970 by a group of teachers with an aim of spreading education for all. The society today has 48 institutions popularly known as the Pillai Group of Institutions ranging from pre-primary level to post graduate studies, having under its umbrella over 35,000 students and 2,500 teachers. The society manages various schools in four different board systems. It runs junior colleges and degree colleges in Arts, Commerce and Science. It has established several professional and technical colleges variously offering Diploma, UG and PG courses in fields such as Architecture, Engineering, Management, Education, Bio-technology etc. At campuses located at various places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Rasayani (Raigad District). Most of these institutions are accredited by NBA and other Government bodies, some of them have been re-accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC.

About PiCA

The MES Pillai College of Architecture, popularly known as PiCA was established in 1992. It offers a five year Bachelor’s Degree programme in Architecture and a two year full-time Master of Architecture programme with specialization in Urban Design, both affiliated to Mumbai University. Over the years, PiCA has fostered innovative teaching-learning and research practices among its dynamic faculty and vibrant student body. It has carried out research projects for government and local bodies contributing to the knowledge of the region. Its alumni have earned respect in the profession and academia. X-Picans, the alumni association of PiCA holds an annual festival of ideas called ‘Mindscape’ which has become a popular public event in Navi Mumbai.
